Professor Tom Calma has extensive experience in Indigenous education and human rights for the past 38 years. Professor Calma is Co-Chair of Reconciliation Australia and was appointed National Coordinator, Tackling Indigenous Smoking in March 2010. From 2004 to 2010, he was Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner at the Australian Human Rights Commission.
He also served as Race Discrimination Commissioner from 2004 until 2009. Professor Calma was also recognised as one of the most distinguished members of UniSA’s global alumni community when he was awarded with an Alumni award from last year's inaugural Alumni Awards.
